Tool or Toy — Fidget Spinners

The device is a type of stress-relieving toy. The school says it's too early to tell whether or not the spinners are effective for calming students down.

They can be a helpful tool for students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or sensory issues who like to keep their hands busy with squeeze balls, stretchy bands or spinners while they concentrate on a lesson.

While teachers WSAV spoke with say they like the idea of them, fidget spinners are becoming a distraction in the classroom.

Kids with ADHD also use fidgeting as a coping mechanism.

Q. Is there any object that's been proven to help squirmy students? "Fidget toys definitely have some merit, but it is important to make sure they are being used appropriately in the classroom".

The toy is still relatively new and isn't yet available on the high street but Amazon is selling them, with prices starting at £2.99.

"It has gone a little insane and it's not being used as it was meant to be", she said.

Anyone who isn't aware of the fidget spinner, or the hold it has had over the nation, must have been living under a rock for the past few weeks - but it might be replaced very soon. Where can I get one?

7-Eleven says that specialty donuts continue to be a hot bakery trend, with fun or unexpected flavors and sweet, savory and surprising toppings and fillings. But, the districts say some individual teachers have banned them from their classrooms. So far, they have not been banned system-wide in Wake, Durham, or Cumberland County schools.

But some teachers report that students are comparing their spinners with their friends in class, throwing them around the room, and that students who don't have ADHD or a condition that can make focusing hard are using them too often during classroom instruction.

The aesthetics of fidget spinners are also widely celebrated online, particularly on Instagram. They're practically taking over the world!

Schools are saying the sound of the spin and movement can be distracting to other students.

"Kids should be able to have them in the playground". "Out of sight, out of mind, which is how most of the kids feel toward them now".

A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: "The school has taken a decision and this has been communicated to parents and families".

You're probably heard of the fidget spinners - but are they useful?

Q. Is there a threshold where fidgeting becomes a serious concern? A pediatric occupational therapist in Cleveland, Heffron said the whole discussion needs to be reframed. Now, 20 years later, it's become one of the most popular items in the toy industry. Try some of the different types at home, at school, at work or even while waiting at the doctor's office to decide which fidget will work best for you or your kids. It was not developed by a behaviorist or neuroscientist, or even an innovative lab team.

I do know that if you stand up and you stretch and you walk around the room, that might also be really helpful. "Fidget tools are a profound piece of the discussion, but they are just the tip of the iceberg". Her 2015 study, published in the journal Child Neuropsychology, measured the impact of fidgeting on cognition among a group of children ages 10 to 17. Fidget cubes are a bit less popular, but they have buttons to click, flip, roll, and more.

"There are other ways of doing it than these toys", she said.

She points out people have been fidgeting for years (think of the Rubik's Cube) and that chewing gum or tapping your foot might be less disruptive but just as effective in satisfying a need to fidget.

"Specific learning aids can be provided to any pupils who have been found to need them following assessment".
