Remaining 82 Nigerian Girls Abducted by Boko Haram Now Free

As Nigerians continue to celebrate the release of the 82 Chibok girls, some groups have hailed the president Muhammadu Buhari-led government and the Nigerian military authority.

A Nigerian minister says the government is negotiating "seriously" for the release of the more than 110 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls still held by Boko Haram extremists.

After he became president, Buhari pledged that his government would do all it could to rescue the girls, including exchanges, said Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement Monday, calling the criticism insensitive. "After the (release of) the 21 girls, how many hundreds have been killed by suicide bombings?" "I'm happy where I am".

But he told the local Channels television station: "One said, "No, I have a husband".

The girls were released in great shape with no visible sign of abuse, unlike the other 21 Chibok girls freed past year, October, who came in poor shape, Shehu told Tribune.

Lawyer Zannah Mustapha, mediator for Chibok girls, speaks during an interview with Reuters in Abuja, Nigeria, May 8, 2017.

While the Chibok Girls plight was well publicised with figures such as Michelle Obama calling for their release, there are thousands more victims of Boko Haram. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to reporters on the matter. The program extends to all kidnapped girls, and it is created to give them the education and freedom that Boko Haram sought to take from them.

Families in Chibok are meeting with community leaders to identify photos of the newly freed schoolgirls to determine if they will travel to the capital to meet them.

"The other girls released earlier have been undergoing some teachings in Biology, Civic Education, English, Mathematics and Geography pending the time they will resume school".

She added. "I hope and pray that my daughter is among these released girls".

Nana Shettima presented boxes of clothes to each of the 82 girls as part of contributions to uplift their spirits.

"Those saying we are not allowing them access are not the direct parents of the girls; we can not bring anybody to see them apart from their biological parents, allowing visitors everyday will not allow them to heal fast", the minister added. Of the 276 girls originally snatched in April 2014, 113 are still held captive.

With the excitement over the release of 82 new Chibok girls still in the air, a family in Chibok is waiting with bated breath for news about their daughter. They have been in government care for medical attention, trauma counseling and rehabilitation.

In furtherance of this, government should maintain its momentum, remain focused and not allow uncharitable comments derail it from its trajectory on the Chibok girls.

They will receive "psycho-social therapy" and "vocational training" to help them reintegrate into society.
