And NASA will Launch it

On June 21st, the world is going to witness a never-before history as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be launching world's smallest and lightest satellite, developed by an Indian teen atop its sounding rocket.

Shaarook expressed his excitement over the news that his satellite will be launched by NASA.

Shaarook entered his invention into the Cubes in Space competition, run by education company idoodlelearning, and supported by NASA and the Colorado Space Grant Consortium. Rifath participated in this competition where his satellite was selected fulfilling all the requisites of the competition.

As per reports, the mini satellite will go on a four-hour mission for a sub-orbital flight.

He said, "We did a lot of research on different cube satellites all over the world and found ours was the lightest". "It will have a new kind of on-board computer and eight indigenous built-in sensors to measure acceleration, rotation and the magnetosphere of the earth".

The challenge encouraged students to invent a device that could fit into a 13-foot cube and weigh no more than 64 grams.

The world smallest satellite, KalamSat, designed by Shaarook has been named after the former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

The 64g KalamSat was manufactured using 3D printing technology.

Sharook's satellite design might inform future materials choices among spacecraft designers.

"The main role of the satellite will be to demonstrate the performance of 3-D printed carbon fibre", Sharook was quoted as saying by the Times of India (TOI). Since its inception in 2014, Cubes in Space has had over 5000 participants representing 57 countries.

Shaarook is now working as lead scientist at Space Kidz India, an organisation that encourages science and education for local children and teenagers. She is an active blogger and erstwhile facilitator of science and engineering programs for children.
