Derek Carr reportedly frustrated with lack of communication on new contract

Derek Carr reportedly frustrated with lack of communication on new contract

According to Silver, the Raiders and Carr were supposed to begin contract negotiations after the draft, but two weeks later, Carr has not heard from the team.

As such, here are the best case scenarios for the Raiders wide receiving corps in 2017.

Derek Carr has grown "frustrated" with the Oakland Raiders over a lack of discussion for what could be a giant contract extension, according to NFL Network's Michael Silver.

Shortly after bringing in Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr via the 2014 National Football League draft, the team's wide receiving corps experienced a makeover of its own as the only receiver still on the roster from Carr's rookie campaign is Seth Roberts.

But his performance and simple inflation could push him past Colts quarterback Andrew Luck's $25.594 million per year average, which complicates things.

Carr has given the Raiders until training camp to get something done, after which he said he wouldn't even pick up the phone to discuss his contract. The 26-year-old is hoping for a new deal before the start of training camp.

Nov 21, 2016; Mexico City, MEX; Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (4) and linebacker Khalil Mack (52) celebrate after a NFL International Series game against the Houston Texans at Estadio Azteca.

Because Carr was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, he is playing in the final year of his rookie deal for under $1 million.

Amari Cooper's fifth-year option also comes into play soon, with 2018 being the last guaranteed year of his rookie deal before the team would have to commit to an eight-digit price tag.

With training camp less than two months away, there's plenty of time to get a deal done, but the Raiders could risk further angering their franchise quarterback by delaying talks.
