Google challenges Apple's Siri by opening digital assistant to iPhone

CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled Google Lens, a set of vision-based computing capabilities that can understand what you are looking at.

Google is expected to give the crowd a look at new twists in its Android software for mobile devices.

The initial implementation will be introduced in Google Photos and Assistant, very simply put - if you run into something and want to know what it is, Google Assistant will tell you what you're looking at through some pretty awesome technology. There are more than 2 billion active devices running Android, 1 billion kilometers navigated on Google Maps every day, 800 million people using Google Drive every day and 1.2 billion files uploaded to Google Photos daily.

Users will find the Google Assistant app as "Assistant" in the iTunes App Store under Google, Inc., where the latest update should appear near the top.

Google is developing a stand-alone virtual-reality headset - one that doesn't need a companion phone or personal computer. This app is very similar to the Google Search app, but has a few key differences - and will be updated in a completely different way in the near future.

Google Home can only make calls at the moment, which should considerably ease at least some of your privacy concerns, and these don't cost a dime stateside or in Canada, whether you're contacting a smartphone user or fellow Google Home owner.

Your Favorite Entertainment Spotify will be adding their free music tier to Google Home, with SoundCloud and Deezer also supporting Home.

The devices won't be out until later in the year. That initiative was called "Project Svelte", and it was aimed at low-end phones for emerging markets. These devices will automatically get Android Go instead of the full version.

Google is working on a visual positioning service, which is like Google Maps for the indoors. Google said the technology was coming later this year but did not say in what app.

With cameras in mind Google is also adding a suite of other smart features into its Photos app, with the aim to select the best photos in a users photo library, improve the way photos are shared, and create photo books made out of AI powered suggestions.
