Man shot by police after striking officer dies

Officers stopped the driver on the ramp from Glebe Road to I-395 Southbound.

A man shot by police in Arlington during an attempted traffic stop Wednesday died of his injuries, officials said Thursday.

Authorities say the shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 395 in the D.C. suburb of Arlington, Virginia.

Daniel George Boak, 28, of Centreville, Va., struck an officer with his truck before being shot, police said.

Police did not release the names or races of the officers or Boak's race. As officers approached the truck on foot, Boak hit one officer, pinning the officer against another vehicle, she said.

Police say the driver hit an officer, pinning him against another vehicle.

Boak was wanted on a misdemeanor narcotics charge in Fairfax County, Arlington police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said. Officers then moved the vehicle and freed the trapped officer. The other officer was treated on the scene by medics.

The officer struck by Boak's vehicle suffered serious injuries, but they are not considered life threatening.
