Paging James Comey: Some congressional Russian Federation investigators struggle to reach Federal Bureau of Investigation director

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is planning to announce Thursday that he will leave Congress in June, according to two people familiar with his plans. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, also asked the White House to provide any recordings, if they exist, detailing interactions with Comey that relate to the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election or the Clinton email scandal.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, expressed skepticism about memos attributed by several news outlets to James Comey in an interview with Good Morning America Thursday and expressed his hope that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director would give testimony in "the light of day, in a public setting".

The New York Times first reported Tuesday that Comey's own record of a February 14 meeting with Trump, showed that Trump requested Comey kill his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence submitted a letter Thursday asking FBI Director James Comey to testify in closed session on May 2.

Both the House and Select Senate Intelligence Committees are investigating Russian attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 US presidential election as well as allegations of collusion between members of the Trump campaign and high-ranking Russian officials.

"President has never asked Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn".

Fox News also confirmed Wednesday the existence of the Comey memo. The conversation took place after the FBI launched its investigation into ties between Russian Federation and Trump and his advisers. Trump also reportedly described Flynn as a "good guy". "If it's just to go on to a different job, a more lucrative job, that will be very offensive to me" as well as to other lawmakers.

President Trump's "showboat" comment about James Comey drew instant pushback from the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

President Trump fired Comey last week following which the administration officials provided multiple, conflicting accounts of the reasoning behind the dismissal.
