Amazon unveils 7-inch touchscreen Echo Show with Alexa support

Amazon unveils 7-inch touchscreen Echo Show with Alexa support

Amazon has announced a new smart speaker called the Echo Show, which combines its Alexa voice assistant with a 7-inch touch screen and video calling capabilities.

Amazon's own services will also feature prominently, including streaming shows and movies through Amazon Video and displaying lyrics to songs played through Amazon Music. The calling features for the device, however, will be released in stages, with Amazon still testing with an intercom feature that will connect several Echo products within the home.

Pre-orders of the new Amazon Echo Show are set to ship June 28th to United States residents. The new voice activated speaker can now also be used for making video calls. The speaker comes with a price tag of $229.99 (around Rs 15,000).

On Tuesday, the firm also unveiled Alexa Calling which will bring free audio calls through supported Echo devices or the Alexa App for smartphones.

Amazon has revealed another variant of its Alexa voice-controlled personal assistant - the Echo Show.

Users of previous Echo products will find it easy to work with the new Echo Show since it's a lot similar to the Echo and Echo Dot.

A small image of Amazon Echo's new model was first spotted by AFTVnews on Amazon's servers before prolific leaker Evan Blass stepped in and shared high-resolution pictures of the upcoming device.

The presence of a touchscreen will also look to fill the gaps in the functionality of the display-less Amazon Echo. The feature comes preloaded on the Echo Show.

Since the launch of the original Echo, Amazon has aggressively expanded its Alexa partnerships to end up with thousands of so-called "skills".
