Chibok girl to be reunited with family after three years

Recall that the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the main opposition party had criticised the swap deal that led to Boko Haram's release of 82 Chibok girls while some imprisoned members of the sect were released by the Nigerian government.

Tsambido said some politicians from Borno State were allowed to see the girls, who are now in the custody of the Department of State Services, lamenting that Chibok leaders, resident in Abuja, were denied access to the girls.

The 82 Chibok schoolgirls were released on May 5, 2017 by Boko Haram insurgents.

Some of the released girls during their meeting with President Buhari on Sunday.

A group of United Nations human rights experts today welcomed the release of 82 Chibok girls from Boko Haram captivity, and called on the Government of Nigeria and the worldwide community to take all necessary steps to ensure the timely release of those under Boko Haram captivity and to provide support to the girls to ensure their rehabilitation and reintegration in full respect of their human rights.

This was revealed by the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan.

The militants are thought to be still holding more than 100 of the 276 taken from Chibok, north-east Nigeria, three years ago. They are among thousands kidnapped by Boko Haram during its eight-year insurgency.

Abana Ishaya said Wednesday he was thrilled to find out his daughter was among those released in exchange for five Boko Haram commanders.

Mediator and lawyer Zannah Mustapha said some of the abducted girls refused to be freed with the 82 girls last weekend, fuelling fears that they have been radicalized by the jihadists, and may feel afraid, ashamed or even too powerful to return to their old lives.

Of the 219 who did not manage to flee, 106 have either been released or found, leaving 113 still missing.

In spite of that Grace is "praying to God that is, I am praying that may God help us maybe my niece she is among those girls".

The 24 girls who left captivity past year have been staying in a secret location in the capital, Abuja, for assessment, rehabilitation and debriefing by the Nigerian government. A small number of the schoolgirls managed to escape on their own.

The first was the release of 21 girls last October, which he said was created to "build confidence on both sides". Human rights groups have criticized the decision to keep them in custody in Abuja. "When we asked them if they wanted to go home for Easter ... they are still scared and they said they don't want to go back".

21 girls had earlier been released by the sect in October 2016.
