Comey Hid Among White House Curtains to Avoid Trump

Donald Trump embarks on his first trip overseas as president today amid growing controversy at home over his firing of former FBI Director James B. Comey and the special counsel probe of Russian interference and potential connections to Trump aides.

This was only one of many interactions with Trump that reports now indicate made Comey uncomfortable.

The White House didn't learn of his appointment by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein until 30 minutes before it was publicly announced.

"Oh and there's Jim", Trump said.

Other Democrats have joined Mr Green in floating the idea of impeaching The President. As a result of his testimony - which he updated in a letter to Congress - he was forced to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation. "Because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such bad things about director Comey", he said.

Bipartisan lawmakers had criticized Comey for his handling of investigations related to Trump and his electoral opponent Hillary Clinton.

Comey not only wrote down what Trump had asked of him, but he shared the contents of his memo with senior Federal Bureau of Investigation officials and other close colleagues.

The newspaper cited two anonymous sources, who claimed that Flynn first revealed his ties to the Turkish government "on January 4...to the transition team's chief lawyer, Donald F. McGahn II, who is now the White House counsel".

Rosenstein, the No. 2 Justice Department official, named Mueller amid mounting pressure in Congress for an independent investigation beyond existing FBI and congressional probes into the Russian Federation issue.

Trump's Twitter comments stood in contrast to his measured statement on Wednesday night after former FBI chief Robert Mueller was named as special counsel, in which he said "a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity". "I hope you can let this go". In late morning trading, the benchmark S&P 500 was up about a third of a percent.

Stocks rebounded Thursday, with technology and bank shares resuming rallies as data reinforced optimism in the economy. The Mueller appointment will, at least temporarily, relieve some of the pressure on congressional Republicans who've publicly complained that the constant drama and serial controversies at the White House were hindering their ability to work on their policy agenda. Claire McCaskill, after a Senate meeting with Rosenstein, said Rosenstein was aware Comey would be fired before writing the memo justifying Comey's firing.

There was also the now-infamous dinner in which Trump asked Comey to stop investigating Michael Flynn, which the FBI Director refused to do. All that was in the last seven days.

The press conference will also be one of Trump's last opportunities to speak on the record to the American media before his first trip overseas as president.
