David Ayer In Talks To Direct Scarface Reboot

David Ayer In Talks To Direct Scarface Reboot

The 1983 version of Scarface earned $65.9 million worldwide. It's nearly a religion in the same way that Star Wars has become one. This new take will follow the rise and fall of a Mexican gangster, giving it a whole new spin. So Ayer will be directing a rewrite of a script he originally penned, one that was obviously determined to be unsatisfactory, nearly as though he's recently been recognized for having filmed a script that wasn't good enough. Ayer's directorial resume extends to End of Watch, the Brad Pitt-lead Fury, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage.

The World is yours if you want it, David Ayer. He wrote the screenplay for Training Day. So he knows the ins and outs of Scarface pretty well. Earlier drafts were written by Paul Attanasio and David Ayer. But he has since dropped out, citing scheduling issues. Diego Luna is attached to star, and the film is scheduled for release in August 2018. The movie will be set in Los Angeles and will incorporate many modern elements into the mix.

The new version of Scarface will be set in Los Angeles, with a script by the Coen brothers.

Dylan Clark is producing via his Dylan Clark Productions along with now-Netflix film boss Scott Stuber and original 1983 producer Martin Bregman.

Ayer recently wrote and directed "Suicide Squad", which starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne and and Viola Davis. DC Films has not issued a start date for Gotham City Sirens, so it's unclear if that will shoot before Scarface, or if that movie is being put on the back burner for the time being.
