Here's Derek Jeter's full speech after Yankees retire No. 2

Jeter, who grew up in Kalamazoo dreaming of being the shortstop for the New York Yankees, is the 22nd Yankee to have his number retired and spent all 20 of his Major League Baseball seasons in New York.

Before Jeter threw the first pitch against the Houston Astros, he took a few moments to address the crowd during the dedication ceremony in honor of his almost-two-decade career with the legendary franchise (he retired in 2014). As the evening's events unfolded, various players both past and present took to the internet to share their admiration and respect for the Captain. They also dedicated a plaque in his honor that will be placed in Monument Park behind center field.

While his jersey marked him as No. 2, it's safe to say that many Yankees fans will regard Jeter as their No. 1 favorite for years to come. The days of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera have now turned into the days of Aaron Judge, Gary Sánchez, and Dellin Betances, all of which, would have trouble in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the visiting Houston Astros. A five-time World Series champion, Jeter amassed 3,465 hits and was a 14-time All-Star, while never playing for a team with a sub-.500 record.

"The Captain" will go down in history. Memories fade. But family is forever and I " ll be eternally grateful to be part of the Yankee family.

Pitching on six days' rest, Yankees starter Luis Severino got just three outs with his first 44 pitches and was chased after 77 pitches and 2 1/3 innings.

"There wasn't a whole lot of flash about him, he wasn't a big power hitter, he wasn't stealing a lot of bases I guess, not one thing that stood out", Pettitte said.

“There isnt a person or player I would trade places with thats playing now or ever, ” he told the fans. I feel selfish saying that because, like I said, we were eliminated.

Closer Aroldis Chapman was put on the 10-day disabled list by the New York Yankees on Sunday because of rotator cuff inflammation in his left shoulder.

Josh Reddick homered off the facing of the right-field second deck a pitch after Springer's first homer.

Jeter didnt have No. 2 in his mind before reaching the Yankees. The final words but not the last for this Yankees legend.
