North Korea: We Uncovered US Plot to Kill Our Leader

North Korea on Friday accused the US and South Korean spy agencies of an unsuccessful assassination attempt on leader Kim Jong Un involving biochemical weapons.

On Wednesday, North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency ran a commentary piece which, in a rare move, criticized China directly for its "reckless remarks" on the North's nuclear program.

The report further specifies the detail of the attempted assassination on Kim Jong-un, claiming that the "terrorists" had involved a North Korean citizen in their plot.

The ministry of state security statement, carried by state news agency KCNA, said the CIA and South Korean intelligence services had "hatched a vicious plot to hurt the supreme leadership of the DPRK".

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un: To be assassinated?

President Trump already has sent a nuclear-powered submarine and the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group to Korean waters, and the US recently installed the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.

Relevant to your professional network? Pyongyang has called this an act of "state-sponsored terrorism". It said that "only the CIA" can produce the toxic material and that the "hardware, supplies and funds" for the alleged plot were to be supplied by the South Korean intelligence service. In North Korean propaganda, South Korea remains a "puppet" of the United States.

- "Empire of evil" - ==================== The lurid accusations come with Pyongyang and Washington at loggerheads over the North's banned weapons programmes, which have seen it subjected to multiple sets of United Nations Security Council sanctions.

The dictatorship's security ministry said it would take vengeance against the countries.

The North believes the US and South are seeking to assassinate Kim, said Professor Koh Yu-Hwan of Dongguk University.

A South Korean Marine Corps commander inspected front-line troops near the tense Western maritime border Thursday, saying that any provocations by North Korea will be retaliated against.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg that received some criticism, Trump said he'd be "honored" to meet with Kim Jong-un "under the right circumstances".
