Pemberton Music Festival cancelled, no automatic refunds

This year's Pemberton Music Festival has been cancelled.

The music festival which was set for the weekend ofJuly 13 - 19 in Pemberton offers the option to camp on site and drew large crowds previous year of up to 180,000 fans over the four day event.

The Pemberton Music Festival was scheduled to take place from July 13 - 16.

The organizers have filed for bankruptcy protection and the accounting firm Ernst and Young has been named Trustee.

Refunds may be available to ticketholders from third parties if tickets were purchased using a credit card.

In a statement to CTV, Huka Entertainment, the company that produced the festival, expressed sadness about the cancellation. "That decision was made by the Pemberton Music Festival, LP".

Both the Pemberton and Squamish festivals began when the Canadian dollar was close to par with the United States of America dollar, and with most artists being paid in U.S. dollars, the loonie's decline played a big role in the festivals' long-term viability. "As far as I know, they have no assets".

"They had no faith that any suppliers in Canada could do a decent job", he said.

Last year, the festival drew a record 180,000 fans over four days to Pemberton Village, north of Whistler. There is a kicker for those who were stoked to catch the likes of Chance the Rpper, Muse, A Tribe Called Quest, HAIM, Run the Jewels, Major Lazer, Zeds Dead, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, GRIZ, Diplo, Big Sean, Ween, Nelly, Tegan & Sara, MGMT, Future Islands, Migos, Local Natives, Logic, and many more. The event has brought major global acts such as Pearl Jam, Snoop Dogg, The Black Keys, Nine Inch Nails, Frank Ocean and Soundgarden.

The cancellation came after lineup announcements were delayed several times in recent weeks. General admission tickets were priced at $369, while VIP tickets cost $899 and Super VIP ran upwards of $1,799.

While it may be a bit longer of a drive than to Pemberton, organizers of Ontario's Way Home Festival are extending an invitation to those stuck with now-useless Pemberton Music Festival tickets.
