Referee Steinhaus promoted as 1st women in Bundesliga

The first female referee in German professional football, Steinhaus has refereed at several high profile tournaments in women's football, while she also oversaw the women's gold medal football match between the United States and Japan at the 2012 Olympics.

"Bibiana Steinhaus has been one of the world's best referees for many years, and has proved to be one of the top-ranked judges in Germany in recent Bundesliga matches", said Deutscher Fussball-Bund Vice President Ronny Zimmermann.

Referee Bibiana Steinhaus has been promoted to the Bundesliga next season as the first women working games in Germany‚à "ôs top division".

The 38-year-old German is already proven at the top of the women's game.

"'I feel disbelief, joy, happiness, relief, curiosity - it was simply a roller-coaster ride of emotions!'"




"Speaking to the DFB's official website, Steinhaus said: "[Referees chief] Lutz Michael Frohlich and his team are in constant exchange with us referees.

"It has always been my dream to referee in the Bundesliga".

"On one hand it is confirmation of my hard work, and on the other hand it is a great incentive to continue to work hard".

"That this dream will come true naturally fills me with joy".

"I'm really looking forward to the task that awaits me".
