A new trailer for The Glass Castle has arrived

Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for the film.

The film, based on the memoir written by Jeannette Walls, centres on a successful New York-based journalist who is trying to escape her poverty-filled past. Oscar victor Brie Larson stars as journalist Jeannette Walls in an adaptation of her bestselling 2005 memoir about her upbringing by her dysfunctional parents: her alcoholic father Rex (Woody Harrelson) and her artist mother Rose Mary (Naomi Watts). Along the way, audiences meet Walls' dysfunctional family, who were constantly on the move thanks to her father's inability to find a stable job - and his drinking problems.

The 2005 memoir detailed Walls' unconventional upbringing by her father, Rex (played by Woody Harrelson), and mother, Rose Mary (played by Naomi Watts).

The trailer first appeared on EW.

The Glass Castle was directed by Destin Cretton, who previously directed Brie Larson in Short Term 12. The Glass Castle will hit theaters on August 11, 2017.

"I hope that in seeing my story, it makes people think about what they've been through", she says.

The trailer then contrasts this with Jeannette's adult life, where she is one of the city folk her father derided, living with her husband David (Max Greenfield), who she hasn't told her parents about. "She understands how to be strong and vulnerable at the same time, how you can fight and be scared at the same time".

Judging by the painful honesty of her performance as Ma in Room, if there's anyone in Hollywood qualified to truthfully tell the story of a complicated woman, it's Larson.

Chronicling the adventures of an eccentric, resilient and tight-knit family, THE GLASS CASTLE is a remarkable story of unconditional love.
