Burnley v West Ham preview: Winston Reid ruled out after knee surgery

The shot-stopper would have been able to leave the London Stadium on a free transfer, with Sam Allardyce particularly interested in reuniting with the player he worked with when he was the West Ham manager.

Burnley take on West Ham at home to end of the season for both these teams.

"Adrian is out of contract but we have an option, and we activated that option", Sky Sports report the Hammers boss as saying.

"He's so valuable for us and he makes such a big impact on our game that he is very important for us and when he's not available of course I feel it and the team feels it". Although Burnley have been comfortably above the relegation places for the majority of the season they did find themselves looking over their shoulders at the end of April.

Manager Slaven Bilic confirmed that Reid will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks as he begins his rehabilitation, with youngster Declan Rice likely to deputise. He's had an operation and he will be ok in ten weeks and will be ready for the new season.

His recent form has also caught the eye at worldwide level, with the Nigerian team calling him up for their upcoming friendlies against Corsica and Togo.

"I can see him being a very good player".

Burnley returned to the top flight with many fans and pundits expecting them to go straight back down as they did two years ago. He has a bright future in him and it's all down to him.

"As well as Liverpool played at the London Stadium last weekend I don't think the Hammers played with the same intensity as they did against Spurs recently and they may find it hard to get back up to that level of performance at Turf Moor", Owen wrote on Betvictor.com.
