Senate Intel Committee seeks additional information from Comey, McCabe

Robert Kelner, Flynn's attorney, stated that the former national security adviser would not "submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution".

"Consistent with the committee's position since the beginning of (our) investigation, I welcome their willingness to cooperate", Burr said in his two-sentence statement.

Burr told reporters Thursday about the response from Flynn's lawyer.

Burr noted later Thursday, though, that it's possible Flynn has not yet definitively decided whether he will comply with the subpoena or not. Richard Burr, the Republican leading a probe of Russian election interference.

The committee is one of several on Capitol Hill investigating possible collusion between Russian Federation and President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign.

Last week, the Senate subpoenaed a large number of documents regarding Flynn's interactions with Russian officials.




In February, the day after Flynn was ousted, the president asked now-fired FBI director James Comey to drop an FBI investigation into Flynn.

The second was sent to Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, seeking any notes or memorandum prepared by the former Director regarding any communications he may have had with senior White House and Department of Justice officials related to investigations into Russia's efforts.

The communications had been intercepted by the US intelligence community because they involved Russian officials, who are routinely monitored for national security concerns.

Congressional aides said negotiations with Flynn's lawyer continue, Reuters reported.

Former acting attorney general Sally Yates, a Barack Obama appointee held over for the start of the new administration but fired by Trump, said under oath this month that she warned the White House that Flynn had been interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that he could potentially be blackmailed by Russians over his misleading claims.
