Top 4 chasing Arsenal, Man City both in action

Top 4 chasing Arsenal, Man City both in action

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal go into the final day of the season in the hope that they will be playing Champions League football, so important to the big teams, next season.

Arsenal draw 1-1 with Everton and Liverpool lose 2-0 to Middlesbrough, the two clubs will finish with 73 points and a goal difference of +31 (with 75 scored and 44 conceded).

The destination of the Premier League title is set - Chelsea will get their hands on the trophy after this Sunday's game against Sunderland - and the relegation places have been filled by the Black Cats, Middlesbrough and Hull City.

Similarly a 2-2 draw for Arsenal and a 3-1 defeat for Liverpool would give us a play-off - a 5-5 draw for Arsenal and a 6-4 defeat for Liverpool would give us some great memories, as well as an extra game between the sides.

Chelsea have run away with the title and will secure a record 30 wins this season, if they beat basement club Sunderland.

City travel to Watford knowing a win would guarantee them third spot and automatic qualification. By beating relegated Middlesbrough, Liverpool can count on ending the season no lower than fourth place.

Failure to qualify for the Champions League could see Sanchez and German worldwide Mesuz Ozil leave.

And if Liverpool fans needed anymore motivation to support Dutch side Ajax in their Europa League Final against Manchester United; victory for Ajax means they as well will be off the potential 24 team list, going straight through to the Champions League group stages.

Arsenal, lastly, need a favour.

This was a game that began to show what might be possible in what turned out to be Arsenal's double-winning season.

Hal Robson-Kanu scored a consolation goal for West Brom with three minutes left in regulation.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are now battling for third and fourth places.

As things now stand, just one point stands between Arsenal and Liverpool while their goal difference is also quite similar with Liverpool just two goals better off than their London rivals.

Those 19 successive seasons of Champions League football represent remarkable consistency, second only to Real Madrid, with the Spanish club confirmed to play in the tournament for a 21st campaign in a row this autumn.

Once you are out of it, even if you are as powerful as United and Liverpool, it is increasingly hard to get back in and Arsenal may finally be about to discover that for themselves.

"We always have this kind of pressure; that we want to win the game, that we have to do the right things".
