Spurs will honor fallen firefighter Scott Deem before Game 3

San Antonio's only hope might be a heroic return by Leonard on Saturday for Game 3, but that might not be enough to stop the momentum Golden State is building.

The San Antonio Spurs didn't have much to smile about during their Game 3 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, as they know face elimination in their Western Conference finals series down 0-3.

With Kawhi Leonard (ankle) out indefinitely and Tony Parker (quad) out for the foreseeable future, the Spurs needed LaMarcus Aldridge to turn in one of his best performances just to stay afloat against a stacked Warriors team.

Stephen Curry added 21 points to overtake Hall of Famer Rick Barry as the franchise's leader in postseason scoring.

San Antonio still managed to match a postseason high with 33 points in the opening quarter and lead by as many as six points in the first half. They matched the Warriors on effort, but simply didn't have the horses to play on the level of the league's best team. Golden State turned the ball over 21 times in Game 3, leading to 25 San Antonio points.

Gregg Popovich predicted that Golden State stayed out way late after winning Game 3 of the Western Conference finals, celebrating with burgers and sundaes before spending Sunday playing poker. The Warriors only took eight "wide open" three-pointers all game (they hit four); they averaged 12 wide open three-point attempts during the regular season.

Spurs: Popovich opted to sit Leonard after conferring with the team's medical staff, but it wasn't a decision his All-Star forward agreed with. "I spoke to Kawhi, we spoke to everybody, we all speak about it", Popovich said.

"You let those guys get rolling, they're a handful", Spurs forward Pau Gasol said.

Warriors acting coach Mike Brown said there's no change in Pachulia's condition.

San Antonio drew within 74-71 with 8:07 to play in the third quarter, but the Warriors responded behind Durant, who scored 19 of his points in the third quarter.

The Warriors are good and they hit tough shots. "Today, I just happened to make a couple".

The Warriors have JaVale McGee to thank for keeping the team within striking distance of San Antonio throughout the first half . The Spurs are 1-2 in the postseason without Leonard and were 7-1 in the regular season without their leading scorer.
