Strong storms sweep much of Iowa for second day

Strong storms sweep much of Iowa for second day

Skies over Madison should be cloudy Saturday, mostly cloudy Sunday, partly sunny Monday, and mostly cloudy Tuesday, with highs near 66, 66, 68 and 65, and lows Friday night through Monday night around 47, 54, 49 and 50. Also, a tornado struck a rural area in western Oklahoma, leaving damage in its wake but no immediate reports of injuries. Scattered large hail pounded the area near the tornado.

Severe storms are likely throughout Kansas and Oklahoma. South-central Kansas is also at risk of tornadoes.

Update, 6:15 p.m.: The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of eastern Oklahoma including the Tulsa area until midnight.

Friday night, there is a 70 percent chance of more rain - up to another inch is possible. The Iowa State Patrol said the strong winds knocked over some semitrailers on Interstate 29, which runs north-south along the Missouri River. The dryline may remain well west of the area today (from approximately Childress to San Angelo) but thunderstorms are expected to develop east of the dryline in a very unstable environment.

The deadly storm even grows deadlier when it emerge as big tornadoes in the Midwest region, and later rushes into the Great Lakes, which on the way killed a person in Wisconsin and another person in the state of Oklahoma.

Cities in the "moderate" risk category - the second highest - include Stillwater and Ponca City.

The Wisconsin tornado was part of a huge swath of the Plains and Upper Midwest threatened with severe weather.

Storms will be most severe in the 4-7pm timeframe with a window of opportunity a few hours before (southwest of the QCA) and a few hours after (to the northeast).

But the real danger, meteorologists warned, was the overnight threat of flash flooding.

Tulsa recorded 0.24 of an inch of rain Tuesday, bringing the month's total rainfall to 2.16 inches. These storms are expected to then move into the River Valley and parts of Northwest Arkansas, Thursday night.
