Trump campaign had at least 18 undisclosed contacts with Russians

Newly reviewed information has found that former U.S. national security adviser Michael Flynn and other Trump aides were in contact with Russian officials or those connected with the Kremlin in at least 18 phone calls and emails in the final seven months of the United States elections, Reuters reported Thursday.

A new report from the New York Timesclaims that on January 4, Flynn warned officials on the Trump transition that he was under investigation for undisclosed lobbying he had done on behalf of Turkish interests.

A day after the election, President Obama told Donald Trump that Michael Flynn, who he'd fired as head of Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, was not fit for a role in his administration.

Flynn used his position as Trump's top adviser on national security to affect USA policy in accordance with the preferences of the foreign government he was working for.

Eventually fired on February 13 for making misleading statements to Vice President Mike Pence and other officials about discussions he carried out with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, Flynn has been at the center of a string of Trump-related controversies in recent months. This shows that Flynn was compromised from the very start of the transition, and it confirms that Trump was wrong to put him in such an important national security position.

In a statement released after the US Justice Department named former FBI director Robert Mueller as special prosecutor in its Russian Federation investigation, the president said the probe would only confirm no links to the Kremlin. Even though he was on the job for just 24 days, he was apparently able to direct the administration's foreign policy in a pro-Turkey direction. The contract ended last November, reported American media at the time.

US President Donald Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and any foreign entity.

The Atlantic published an interesting article last week, quoting a source close to the White House who said Trump appears to be "worried about" what Flynn has to offer investigators.

Flynn's attorney Robert Kelner did not respond to phone messages and emails seeking comment.

The existence of the investigation was first confirmed by CNN, which reported that federal prosecutors recently sent grand jury subpoenas to Flynn associates and contractors who worked with his firm. The lawyer, William McGinley, was seeking more information about the nature of the group's foreign work and wanted to know whether Flynn had been paid for the op-ed.

Mr. Kelner then followed up with another call to the Trump transition's legal team.
