Trump Wants Flynn Back In White House

"President Donald Trump pressured a "reluctant" Michael Flynn into accepting a job as the White House's top national security official even after Flynn warned the president that he was under investigation over undisclosed lobbying on behalf of a foreign government", The Daily Beast adds.

"Trump feels really, really, really, bad about firing him, and he genuinely thinks if the investigation is over Flynn can come back", a White House official said, the Daily Beast reports.

Those sources said Trump didn't believe Flynn should be under investigation in the first place.

The Justice Department informed Flynn about him being under investigation about a month before Flynn told Trump.

The feds are still investigating Russia's efforts to get involved in the 2016 presidential election, as well as a potential conspiracy between Moscow and the Trump campaign. Sally Yates, the former acting USA attorney general, told a Senate committee she warned White House officials about Flynn's call 18 days before any action was taken.

The discussions became point of concern for US intelligence officials, who picked up the conversations by the Russians regarding Flynn past year, CNN reported.

President Donald Trump (L-R), joined by Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Vice President Mike Pence, senior advisor Steve Bannon, Communications Director Sean Spicer and the then-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, speaks by phone with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in the Oval Office.

After Barack Obama hit back at Russian Federation for meddling in the elections, Flynn told Kislyak the Trump administration would approve of Russia's decision to hold off on retaliating, sources said.

A White House official said: "We are confident that when these inquiries are complete there will be no evidence to support any collusion between the campaign and Russian Federation. He wanted to go back to private life".

The Washington Post on Monday sparked a firestorm when it revealed that Trump shared sensitive intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a White House meeting last week.

In December 2015, Flynn attended a gala honoring the Kremlin-run TV network RT.

Trump strongly denied the allegations and lashed out against the special counsel, tweeting Thursday morning that "this is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" Trump abruptly fired Comey last week.

The President has been accused in the leftist press as having asked the recently sacked FBI Director James Comey to end the investigation shortly before showing him the door.
