Korea stands ready for nuke test: S. Korean ministry

North Korea on Monday boasted that it successfully launched a new type of "medium long-range" ballistic rocket that can carry a heavy nuclear warhead, an escalation of its nuclear program that the U.N. Security Council warned could require new sanctions on Pyongyang.

In the statement on Monday, the UN Security Council stressed on the importance of North Korea "immediately showing honest commitment to denuclearization through concrete action".

North Korea yesterday celebrated the launch of what appeared to be its longest-range ballistic missile yet tested in a bid to bring the U.S. mainland within reach.

Seoul- Washington and Tokyo have requested the Security Council to hold an emergency meeting, which could be held today in NY, according to what Uruguay delegation has announced.

Defense Minister Han Min-koo said at a meeting of the National Assembly's defense committee that the THAAD's radar in South Korea detected North Korea's launch on Sunday, citing confirmation from the U.S. The session had been requested by the United States and Japan on Sunday, shortly after North Korea's test launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile.

"The launch of such ballistic missiles is a serious threat to our country", Abe said, considering the action a grave threat to the region and a violation of United Nations resolutions on North Korea's arms programs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told world leaders to stop "intimidating" North Korea following the dictatorship's latest missile test.

"The members of the Security Council vowed to fully implement all measures imposed on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by the Security Council and strongly urge all other Member States to do so in an expeditious and serious manner", the press release.

The isolated country has been subject to six sanctions resolutions beginning in 2006.

Trump also has flexed USA military muscle, though with little apparent effect in deterring North Korean leader Kim Jong Un from his rapid tempo of weapons tests. Fired from a test site in Kusong, western North Korea, the missile traveled 435 miles horizontally before landing in the Sea of Japan. They add that the development could raise tensions between Washington and Beijing - North Korea's major protector - and shows just how hard it is to curtail Pyongyang.

"It is considered an IRBM (intermediate range ballistic missile) of enhanced caliber", he said, referring to a class of missile created to travel up to 3,000 to 4,000 km (1,860 to 2,485 miles).

Pyongyang carried out two atomic tests previous year, and has accelerated its missile launch programme, despite tough United Nations sanctions aimed at denying leader Kim Jong-Un the hard currency needed to fund his weapons ambitions.

Leader Kim Jong-Un's ambition is to develop a nuclear weapon capable of striking the United States.

Some experts said the missile, which was launched at a high angle, would have the same reach as an intercontinental ballistic missile if it were fired at a 30 to 45-degree angle.

The Trump administration has also asked China, Pyongyang's closest ally, to exercise its diplomatic and economic influence to force North Korea to change.

The Warriors have JaVale McGee to thank for keeping the team within striking distance of San Antonio throughout the first half . The Spurs are 1-2 in the postseason without Leonard and were 7-1 in the regular season without their leading scorer.
