Spieth charges, Kisner holds on to win Colonial by 1 stroke

Spieth charges, Kisner holds on to win Colonial by 1 stroke

Kisner, runner up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year, birdied the 10th hole and the 11th to tie Simpson for the top spot and took the lead outright with a birdie on the par-four 12th.

The American started Sunday three strokes behind 54-hole leader Webb Simpson but hit the front following three consecutive birdies from the 10th.

Americans Stewart Cink and Kevin Kisner are three off the pace while defending champion Jordan Spieth and Masters champion Sergio Garcia are both five shots behind. Casey fired a 68 that included a curving, 23-foot birdie putt on the final hole and Lee followed in the next-to-last group with his own 16-foot birdie to finish off a 69.

Simpson, who won the 2012 US Open, reached nine-under 201 to move out of a four-way tie and grab the outright 54-hole lead.

On the par-four 10th hole, Simpson hit his 153-yard approach shot to about five feet and then rolled in his putt for an easy birdie.

Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open victor playing in the final group, started the round with birdies at the first two holes.

"I am just honored be the champion and to be able to come back every year see my name on the champions wall will be something special", Kisner said. He gave one of those back with a bogey at the par-3, 192-yard No. 8 after missing the green with his tee shot.

Rahm had five birdies and five bogeys on his scorecard in round three.

Casey made a almost 25-foot birdie putt that had just enough speed to fall into the cup at No. 18. But Rahm's bid to tie went by the hole, and Kisner two-putted from off the green to get in the clubhouse at 10 under.

Singh, the third-round leader, closed with 70 to finish one stroke back.

"I could look back at the end of the year and this could have been the most important round of the year", Spieth said.

LPGA: Shanshan Feng shot a 4-under 68 to win the LPGA Volvik Championship by one stroke over Minjee Lee and Sung Hyun Park. She led by one shot after a bogey-free third round Saturday, then kept the competition at bay on the 6,734-yard course at Travis Pointe Country Club.

Francesco Molinari was second after a 68, with Henrik Stenson (68), Hideto Tanihara (68) and Nicolas Colsaerts (65) a shot further back.

Former victor Phil Mickelson, who is playing here for the first time since missing the cut in 2010, shot a 69 and is tied for 32nd, 10 adrift of Simpson.

Starting the day seven shots off the lead, the 13th-ranked Noren made six birdies before rolling in an eagle putt from six feet on No. 18 to complete what he described as "probably the best round of my life".

For Bernhard Langer, winning this event after several close calls would cap a decade of dominance on the over-50 circuit.
