Jake Guentzel, Matt Murray lead Penguins to more thievery

If he continues to play at this level they have no chance. It's their ability to survive when they don't.

Jake Guentzel scored two more goals to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night.

The Penguins put away a second straight win despite losing the shot battle to the Predators yet again.

"Yeah, I mean, it's disappointing", said Predators head coach Peter Laviolette.

Until Wednesday night, Nashville had not lost consecutive games this postseason. We got a good bounce there on one of them, made a couple good plays. And yet it didn't matter.

Pittsburgh vowed to put more pressure on Rinne than it managed in their 5-3 victory in Game 1, a win they managed despite going 37 minutes without throwing a single puck Rinne's way and none in the second period, the first time that's happened since the National Hockey League started tracking shots in 1957.

"He seems pretty calm and cool on the outside", said Sidney Crosby, whose locker is next to Guentzel's. 2 goals tonight were huge- an important answer in the 1st period to tie the game than the eventual GWG early in the 3rd to help open the floodgates.

The Penguins will have the luxury of doing it with the lead.

Late in the third, and with the Penguins up 4-1, Subban and Malkin dropped the gloves after a play was whistled dead.

Murray, meanwhile, was the gem of Game 2 entering the final period, halting all but one of the Preds' 32 shots through 40 minutes. All three goals in the third period, we could have done something better.

Representative Bryan Terry, who works with Waddell at a Lebanon medical facility is sponsoring the proclamation which honors Predators fans for being "the most passionate in hockey".

"It's obviously frustrating", Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis said.

"It was a different game", Rinne said. "For me, that's Game 3".

Pittsburgh looked a step behind at the outset. The 22-year-old somehow got a rebound attempt through an opening between Rinne's left arm and midsection. The Predators are 7-1 at home in this postseason. We can't always expect to get lucky like in game one. "We want to score more".

Fifty teams have taken a 2-0 series lead since the final went to the best-of-seven format in 1939, and 45 of them (90 per cent) have gone on to claim the Stanley Cup, including the Penguins last season. Part of his job title is to alert coach Mike Sullivan when to challenge a call.

His goal also came with three of Nashville's best defensemen - Mattias Ekholm, Roman Josi and P.K. Subban - on the ice, stuck after the penalty expired. Cullen was the player who was in the zone ahead of the play as the puck was brought in by Chris Kunitz.

A spokesperson for Tennessee House Republicans said Terry plans to give the proclamation before Game 3 on Saturday in Smashville. "I believe all of them were odd, three-on-twos and two-on-ones makes it more hard". The Pens scored five goals on just 12 shots in Game 1 as Rinne surrendered four goals on 11 shots.

Nashville, unlike the Senators, didn't bail.

A third-period eruption knocked Pekka Rinne from the net and gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-0 series advantage in the Stanley Cup final. Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne (35) watches the puck shot by Pittsburgh Penguins' Jake Guentzel land in the net for a goal during the third period in Game 2 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Final, Wednesday, May 31, 2017. They can win with both firepower and precision.

Flat out, the Predators would have won Game 1 had they received a representative performance from their goalie.

"We didn't do a great job of (shooting), but we made them count", Crosby said.
