James Comey OK'd to testify before U.S. Senate committee

Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is being asked by Senate investigators to provide "information and testimony" about any contacts he had with those connected to the Russian government, ABC News reported on Tuesday.

Separately, federal prosecutors pursuing a criminal investigation into Flynn have issued subpoenas to people and businesses who have done business with him seeking information, including bank records and communications, related to Flynn, the Flynn Intel Group and Invovo BV, a Dutch company owned by Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin, according to a document reviewed by Reuters.

According to a statement from the committee, they're requesting " testimony, personal documents and business records".

Four of the House subpoenas reported today are related to the Russian Federation investigation, and three focus on the so-called "unmasking" controversy, say unnamed sources cited in stories out today by the Wall Street Journal and Reuters, among other news organizations.

Yesterday, Flynn agreed to turn over documents to the Senate Intelligence Committee concerning their investigation into Russia's activities during the 2016 campaign. But officials can request that names - listed as "U.S. Person 1", for example - be unmasked internally in order to give context about the potential value of the intelligence.

Unmasking refers to an internal process within the classified world by which names the names of Americans that are collected while another target is being spied upon are uncovered at the request of intelligence agencies.

Trump made a similar claim in a tweet early Tuesday: "Russian officials must be laughing at the USA & how a lame excuse for why the Dems lost the election has taken over the Fake News".

The Senate Intelligence Committee voted unanimously on May 25 to authorise its chairman, Republican Senator Richard Burr, and its top-ranking Democratic, Mark Warner, to issue subpoenas that would force the attorney to respond to their demands.

Epshteyn, who grew up in Moscow, worked a short time in the White House press office. Both of their firms-Flynn Intel Llc and Michael D. Cohen and Associates PC-were also subpoenaed. The Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a Special Counsel in the bureau's investigation in mid-May.

Those Trump associates had been caught up incidentally on surveillance conducted on others, and the subpoenas suggest Republicans are not just investigating Trump, but also looking into the Obama administration's actions.

Comey reportedly has notes of a February 14 encounter with Trump in which he says the president urged him to back off the FBI investigation of Flynn.

The chairman and vice chairman of the committee, Sen.

After news of Rice's request broke, she denied accusations that she had leaked the names of unmasked Trump officials to media outlets.
