Comey will testify against Trump; White House braces for another bombshell

James Comey is ready to share details about his much talked about confrontation with President Donald Trump as he plans to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee as early as next week.

During a White House meeting on February 14, Comey said Trump asked him to shut down a probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, whom the president had fired the day before.

Former FBI director James Comey could be set to give public testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence as soon as next week.

After the firing, the deputy attorney general appointed Robert Mueller on May 17 as special counsel to oversee the FBI's investigation. CNN also reports Comey is "eager" to testify which may be based on that tepid quote at the end of the piece, i.e.

"If the investigation encompasses Comey's firing, it would seem Rosenstein was involved in that, and he'd be a witness", law professor Kathleen Clark told Politico.

The House Intelligence Committee included in the subpoenas Flynn's consulting firm, Flynn Intel Group LLC, as well as Michael Cohen, a longtime lawyer for President Trump, and Michael D. Cohen & Associates PC.

Trump fired Comey on May 9, prompting allegations that the president was attempting to thwart the FBI's investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the election.

The Wall Street Journal also reported on Wednesday that a source close to Comey said he would confirm the Times report in his testimony.

Another senior committee aide said any subpoenas related to the unmasking issue would have been sent by committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., who recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation after being criticized for being too close to the White House.

Trump has called the Russian Federation probe a witch hunt and denied any wrongdoing.

In May, Trump fired Comey as the Federal Bureau of Investigation reportedly ramped up its probe into Russia's election interference and possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

"I think it's very significant and very important to the entire administration", Panetta said of Comey's testimony.

"This Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story", Mr. Trump told NBC News. He blows away their. case against him & now wants to clear his name by showing 'the false or misleading testimony by James Comey, John Brennan.' Witch Hunt!'

CNN's source said that Comey is "happy to testify" and "happy to cooperate".
