May and Corbyn grilled on social care and defence by voters

May and Corbyn grilled on social care and defence by voters

The Labour leader attacked Mrs May for failing to sign a joint letter with leaders of Germany, France and Italy condemning President Donald Trump's decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Accord on climate change.

The Labour leader said: "I'm very sorry this is not a debate, this is a series of questions".

The two, who did not appear on screen together, but rather in separate segments on a BBC programme called Question Time.

In an effort to maintain pressure on the Tories over the issue, Mr Corbyn said: "It is staggering that just six days from polling day millions of pensioners still don't know what's in store for them if they are unlucky enough to get dementia or any other condition that needs care in the home".

However, Theresa May's personal approval rating has become negative for the first time since she became prime minister in July 2016, a fresh ComRes poll showed on Saturday.

"I hope that we would retain the trade access and I hope also that we will have a Labour government that will be investing in a growing economy in this country and challenging the bad levels of inequality that exist in this country at the same time".

Mr Corbyn used a rally in Basildon, in south-eastern England, to say that Ms May and the Conservatives were putting Britain's economy at risk by taking a hard line toward the European Union over Brexit terms, which may lead to a breakdown in talks.

"What particularly annoys me is that Trident isn't just for, heaven forbid, a potential Corbyn government, it goes beyond that many decades into the future".

But the PM said: "I haven't because I actually have spoken to Donald Trump and told him that the UK believes in the Paris agreement and that we didn't want the United States to leave the Paris agreement".

"I want to form a Labour government with a majority to carry out this wonderful programme which can give so much hope and opportunity to so many people".

The Conservatives claim Labour's plans to reverse reductions in corporation tax will discourage investment, which is crucial to supporting growth and jobs. "I don't approve of any terrorism of any sort, any terrorist act of any sort", he said. He said: "I do find it incredibly concerning that you wouldn't commit to doing that - it's our safety that you have to look out for first and foremost. I would be actively engaged to ensure that danger didn't come about".

This afternoon, Mr Corbyn called the confusion "staggering".

One man accused the Labour leader of speaking with the IRA "when they were killing our people - our women and children".

Afterwards, Corbyn faced the same audience and his own tough questions over his party's manifesto of spending promises, which one audience member called a "letter to Santa Claus".

"He responded saying "it is a serious and realistic document that addresses the issues that many people in this country face and we've been courageous enough to put it out there with all the policies that are in it".
