Tornado touches down southeast of Edmonton, no reports of injuries or damage

Cecilia Wessels says she took the picture to show the tornado to her parents in South Africa.

According to a report in the Times Colonist‚ Cecilia Wessels' nine-year old daughter wanted her dad to come inside‚ but Theunis had his to-do list‚ and a tornado wasn't going to stop him.

"Our whole street, everyone was on their back patios taking pictures", she added.

Another tweeted: 'Sometimes yardwork is a big priority!'

'It looks much closer if you look in the photo, but it was really far away. "Well, not really far, far away, but it was far away from us", Theunis told Canadian newspaper the Times Colonist.

"I was keeping an eye on it".

"Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can", the statement goes on.

The tornado was moving east at over 30 miles per hour, according to reports, and nearby Morrin and Rowley were in the twister's path. Twenty-seven minutes after the alert was first issued, Alberta Emergency officials reported the tornado threat was over.

The agency reported by 5.27pm that the tornado had lifted and there was no longer a threat of another tornado.

A tornado touched down northeast of Calgary on Friday, shortly before a warning was issued for the region by Environment Canada.
