Accuser takes the stand in Bill Cosby sexual assault trial

"No, ma'am, those calls were because Warren Chambers had asked me to deliver salt products to Mr. Cosby and his wife", Constand explained.

Dozens of women have accused Cosby of sexual assaulting them, often after plying them with drugs, in a series of attacks dating to the 1960s.

Beth Ferrier, who claims that Cosby raped her in the mid-1980s. The defense has argued the two had a romantic relationship, that Constand wasn't incapacitated and that the sexual encounter was consensual.

The woman who managed Temple University's women's basketball program while Cosby was a high-powered trustee calmly fielded a barrage of questions over details she got wrong or left out during her early police interviews.

But there Constand was, on the stand, posture and presence near ideal. She said that when she awoke, her breast was exposed, and a naked Cosby forced her to sexually gratify him with her hand. They could also raise questions about why she would continue to spend time alone with the comedian. She viewed him like a father. She will return to the witness stand Wednesday. She felt "terrible" about it, she said, especially when her mother brought Cosby some Canadian souvenirs. But she said he kept their next conversation short. During that call, Cosby avoided any discussion of the incident and instead suggested he would be willing to pay for Constand to attend graduate school.

"It had more to do with business than it did with me personally", she said. Instead, she said, the drugs left her "frozen" and unable to resist as he sexually assaulted her on his couch. The charges were lodged against Cosby before the 12-year statute of limitations to file charges expired. The TV star once dubbed America's Dad could get 10 years in prison if convicted. Constand says the pills made it hard for her to see and caused her to slur her speech, and when she told Cosby about that, he led her to a sofa and began groping her.

Part of the defense's focus Wednesday also involved inconsistencies in Constand's initial report to Pennsylvania police the year after the incident. "This man was a trustee at Temple. Of course she was calling him back". Mr. Cosby stood up, and I stood up because he said, 'You probably need to relax, ' and when I stood up my legs were not strong, and I began to panic a little bit.

During the start of the cross-examination of Constand, defense lawyer Angela C. Agrusa suggested Constand gave inconsistent statements to investigators concerning her contact with Cosby before and after the alleged incident and implied her testimony can not be trusted. Constand, 44, lives in Toronto and was 31 when the alleged assault took place.Cosby, 79, has maintained his innocence.

A day after she confronted Bill Cosby in court for the first time, his accuser Andrea Constand faced a challenge from his lawyers. Constand says the mood was friendly and the room light enough to eat.

She claims he became flirtatious, grabbing her thigh and later trying to unbutton her trousers.

Constand testified that on a previous evening at his home, the actor had tried to unfasten her trousers. She complied, although Cosby did not look at her, nor did he look at her throughout the testimony, even turning his head away at times.

Constand said she made it clear she did not welcome the advances.

She hopes to show Constand changed her mind about the date of the alleged 2004 assault after reviewing them.

"I was mistaken", she said, unflustered.

Constand is one of around 60 women who have accused Cosby of sexually violating them but the prosecution has gone ahead on just Constand's allegations due to the statute of limitations passing for almost every other of those claims.

When she asked if they were herbal, he nodded, she told jurors.

Cosby, the actor and comedian who has been a household name for half a century, is charged with sexually assaulting Constand in his Cheltenham home in 2004.
