England U20 on verge of history but we haven't peaked yet

For the first time since 1966, an England team has made it into a World Cup final after the under-20 side came from a goal down to beat Italy 3-1 in the semi-finals of the under-20 version of the tournament in South Korea. The forward, who will join Liverpool from Chelsea next month, wheeled away to cap England's win after his powerful effort slipped through the hands of Zaccagno, who failed to parry.

England and Venezuela are in the tournament's final, which will take place in Suwon on Sunday, for the first time.

Manager Simpson had told BBC Sport before the match that reaching the final would be "massive" and their approach and style of play is "changing everyone's perception of English football".

This will be the best performance for England's under-20 team since it came third back in 1993, when it lost in the semi-final to Ghana.

Solanke twice went close to levelling before the referee, Antonio Lahoz, blew his whistle for the end of the first half, heading narrowly wide before forcing Andrea Zaccagno, the Italy goalkeeper, into a smart stop.

He showed great composure to slot the ball home in the 66th minute and give a lifeline to England.

Former England defender Jamie Carragher: "Lookman & Solanke goals, England U20's on fire!"

Everton's Kieran Dowell and Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo made no senior league appearances this season but both represented their teams in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.

"It's an unbelievable performance from the boys, we're into the World Cup Final and we're all over the moon", said Calvert-Lewin, who led the line alongside goalscorer Solanke and his Goodison Park team-mate Lookman.
