Spanish publication Marca (h/t Jack Rathborn of the Daily Mirror) revealed how the Argentina global will put his name to a contract set to pay him amounts that will "vary from year to year".

Messi is, after joining Barcelona at just thirteen and going on to score more than 500 goals for the club since making his debut at seventeen, a Camp Nou institution. "I would like to finish my career at Barcelona", Messi said in an interview with ESPN, shown on Barcelona's website. "In this regard, this season I felt like I did in previous years".

Messi said: "It's what I always dreamed and what I always wanted".

Messi's contract expires next summer, although reports in Spain suggest he is close to agreeing a three-year extension. We want to be in the Champions League final and to win LaLiga.

It was only enough for the Camp Nou side to win the Copa del Rey, as they were beaten to the league title by rivals Real Madrid and got eliminated from the Champions League by Juventus.

The five-time Ballon d'Or victor has been the subject of speculative transfer rumours in the past, but he confirmed that his desire is to retire at the Camp Nou.
