Novak Djokovic 'tanked' the last set, says McEnroe

Defending French Open champion Novak Djokovic has been accused of tanking the last set of his quarter-final against Dominic Thiem by tennis great John McEnroe.

Djokovic's reign came to an end with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 6-0 loss to Thiem on Court Suzanne Lenglen and he said he will ponder what to do next after failing to reach the semi-finals.

Djokovic was swept aside in straight sets by 23-year-old Thiem in just under two hours and 15 minutes, making 35 unforced errors in the process.

Thiem had lost to the Serb in the semi-finals previous year and took just one game in a straight-sets loss in Rome in May.

Coming off the biggest win of his career over Milos Raonic in the fourth round, Carreno Busta retired due to an abdominal issue while trailing Nadal 6-2, 2-0.

The other semi-final will also be decided on Wednesday, when world number one Andy Murray faces Kei Nishikori and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka takes on Marin Cilic. I don't think he's dropped a set.

The third-seeded Halep, who trailed 5-0 in the first set, was down 5-1 in the second. "I only care that I am in the semi-finals", said Nadal.

Tough call, but it seems only a miracle would prevent the nine-time French Open victor from snagging title No. 10 come Sunday.

He allowed Djokovic just eight points in the third set - only the ninth 6-0 "bagel" the 12-time Major victor has ever conceded.

She allowed Halep just four winners in the first set and coasted into a 5-1 lead in the second. The rising tennis star was overwhelmed with joy and had this to say about his won over Djokovic.

Rafael Nadal has warned those who are tipping him for a 10th French Open title not to write off semi-final opponent Dominic Thiem, saying: "Maybe I won't be up to the challenge".

The 30-year-old Serb hinted that he may step back from the sport to regroup, just 12 months after holding all four Grand Slam titles.

Last month, the 12-time Grand Slam champion parted with his entire coaching team.

His defeat by Thiem was his first in six meetings with the young Austrian.

"I just had a positive win-error statistic today that's very important".

Spain's Rafael Nadal waves to spectators as as he leaves the court after his opponent Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta withdrew with an injury from their quarterfinal match of the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium, in Paris, France. "I knew he was playing good since the beginning of the tournament, but I was also confident with what I was doing", said Wawrinka in a confident manner.

The third-seeded Romanian, who was runner-up to Maria Sharapova in Paris in 2014, will face Karolina Pliskova, the Czech second seed, for a place in Saturday's final.

"I played a really good match past year, I was very aggressive in that one", Murray told Jon Wertheim of The Tennis Channel on air.
