Trump promises 'first-class' infrastructure system for US

The president planned to host governors and mayors at the White House on Thursday to discuss the use of tax dollars for infrastructure projects.

Vowing to deliver on promises he said others before him have broken, President Trump on Wednesday used the Ohio River as the backdrop to promote his plan to pump $1 trillion in public and private investment into the nation's aging infrastructure.

"In my campaign for president, I traveled all across the nation". I'd be doing positive things.

But Democrats have uniformly balked at the White House's proposal, which would provide $200 billion in funding over a decade with the aim of attracting an additional $800 billion in private money, as well as state and local funds.

During a campaign stop in Wilmington Ohio a year ago, Trump said he would redirect billions of dollars in payments to the United Nations to combat climate change and "use that money to invest in America", including replacing the double-decker bridge.

A day before former FBI Director James Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on the circumstances that led to his controversial firing in the midst of the bureau's investigation of potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russian interference in the presidential election, Trump mostly stayed on topic as he hammered the condition of US infrastructure. "That's why they lost the House, it's why they lost the Senate, it's why they lost the White House".

As Trump flew to OH aboard Air Force One, cable networks aired live coverage of the testimony of Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats and National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers. That drama will come to a head on Thursday when former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey, who was leading the Russian Federation probe until Trump fired him last month, testifies before a Senate panel.

Trump did not mention the events in Washington, D.C., during his visit to Cincinnati, where he also made separate remarks shortly after landing about the effort to repeal Obamacare.

We applaud the President for committing his vast building experience to modernizing the inland waterways, and establishing a goal of completing projects on-time, on-budget, and removing regulatory impediments.

"It's time to rebuild our country to bring back our jobs to restore our dreams and yes, it's time, finally, to put America first".

"Crumbling roads and bridges can become gleaming new infrastructure".

"Every other country looks out for their interests", Trump said.

Trump says "we will never have outside forces telling us what to do and how to do it" while he's president.

After running for the presidency on his reputation as a shrewd negotiator, the author of The Art of the Deal promoted his actions during his first foreign trip two weeks ago to drive the United States' economy. "That would have been a huge anchor on our country". Trump has brushed aside such worries in favor of the potential economic boosts from environmental deregulation on numerous occasions, most recently with last week's withdrawal from the Paris climate accord.

Bahrain, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have cut diplomatic ties to Qatar, accusing it of backing extremist groups. "We have to put an end to it". "And yet if we want to fix a road or fix a school or make sure bridges do not collapse, we don't ever seem to have the money".

His proposal led Democrats to predict increased privatization of existing infrastructure and the use of tolls to help pay for improvements.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, said he was willing to work with Mr. Trump on an infrastructure package, but he does not like what he's seen so far.
