Uber Founder Suspected Delhi Rape Was Conspiracy By Rival Ola

The Recode report further said Alexander, Kalanick and senior vice president Emil Michael read the medical report and tried to blame Ola for the incident, calling it an attempt to damage Uber's reputation.

However, Eric Alexander, the President of Business in Asia Pacific at Uber was recently fired for his handling of a Uber rape case in New Delhi.

A report in recode.net quoting Uber spokesperson said "he is no longer with the company".

There were also reports yesterday that the company had fired its head of Asian business due to a controversy over his alleged acquisition of a rape victim's medical records. The driver was also caught and awarded a life sentence in prison.

Alexander continued to carry the records around for a year until other executives obtained a copy of them and destroyed his copy of the records, Recode reported. But this year, Uber's aggressive corporate culture and 40-year-old Kalanick's self-admitted need to "fundamentally change and grow up" has caught up with it.

After the rape incident came in light, Uber CEO had condemned it.

Alexander had played a key role in Uber's Asia operations, especially in India which has become one of the company's biggest markets after exiting China in August past year. Then, he kept them for a year - what isn't clear from the reporting so far is whether he had been directed to bring back the records or made a decision to do this on his own. While the company was publicly apologetic about the incident, its top management reportedly suspected it to be a sabotage by its rival firm, Ola, Recode reported.

At the time Uber said "sexual assault is a bad crime and we're pleased he has now been brought to justice", adding it had improved security due to "lessons we learned from this awful case".

None of the three executives had any medical training, though they questioned the incident based on the medical report.

In light of the information we now have, it is clear that Uber had trouble believing the authenticity of the woman's complaint. But because Uber lacks rooms designated for such self contemplation, Kalanick has opted to pop into an available lactation room to find peace, Huffington said while speaking at the iCONIC conference in New York City on Wednesday. Our entire team's hearts go out to the victim of this despicable crime. Uber quickly rolled out new safety features in India and elsewhere in the aftermath of the rape. "And Uber is going through a big transformation right now, and it has to start at the top", says Huffington, who joined Uber's board in April 2016.
