United States intelligence chiefs refuse to discuss Trump conversations on Federal Bureau of Investigation probe

His remarks paint a picture of an Federal Bureau of Investigation director so disconcerted by his interactions with the president that he began keeping written memos of their private discussions. The Senate Committee is looking into the circumstances around Comey's dismissal and how they relate to the FBI investigation of Russian interference in the U.S. Election.

Collins said he had not yet read all of Comey's testimony, but he is confident from the quote he saw that there was no obstruction of justice.

The release of Comey's prepared remarks came just as senators were casting votes on other matters and few had a chance to digest the full text.

Trump's personal lawyer said Trump was cheered by the testimony.

Congressional Republicans seized on Comey's remarks that he three times told Trump he personally wasn't under investigation. "He is eager to continue to move forward with his agenda", Kasowitz said in a statement. Rosenstein criticized Comey for unfair treatment of Trump's former rival, Clinton, during the email server investigation. "Dr. Collins, a noted geneticist who once headed the government's Human Genome project and served previously as director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, is 67 years old".

The exchange took place after a meeting between Trump and senior intelligence and homeland security officials, after which the President asked to speak to the FBI Director alone.

The ex-FBI director's testimony recounts his conversations with the apparent precision of a veteran lawman. "During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on President-Elect Trump's reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance". He also says he did not keep written memos of his interactions with Obama. Later Comey lectured Trump about the dangers of blurring lines between the White House and an independent Department of Justice. He then said, 'I need loyalty.' I replied, 'You will always get honesty from me.' He paused and then said, 'That's what I want, honest loyalty.' I paused, and then said, 'You will get that from me.'. Worse yet, at the February 14 Oval Office meeting where the president asked that the FBI stop investigating Michael Flynn, several high-ranking members of the intelligence community and the attorney general were present when Trump asked Comey to stay behind for a private meeting.

Comey to Congress: President Trump told him "I need loyalty"

Turley said. "We do not indict people for being boorish or clueless". Trump said of Flynn: "He is a good guy". Wray, according to Graff, told Comey, "Look, I don't know what's going on, but before you guys all pull the rip cords, please give me a heads-up so I can jump with you". The former director "is now on record saying that the president tried to impede the investigation of Flynn", Goodman said.

Among the encounters Mr Comey describes is a January 27 dinner at the White House that he viewed as an attempt by the president to "create some sort of patronage relationship". Asked whether the president stood by earlier assertions that he had neither sought Comey's loyalty nor asked for the Flynn investigation to be dropped, she said: "I can't imagine the president not standing by his own statement".

A pair of former White House officials - Katie Walsh, who left her post as deputy chief of staff in March, and Mike Dubke, who stepped down as communications director last week - are helping the RNC effort to combat Comey's testimony.

But shortly afterwards, Comey said he spoke in person to Sessions to pass along Trump's concerns about leaks.

"We've already been in contact with him to schedule that testimony", Schiff said.

The outcome could have significant repercussions for Trump's 139-day-old presidency as special counsel Robert Mueller and multiple congressional committees investigate whether Trump's campaign team colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.
