Is Trump Being Investigated For Obstruction of Justice?

The high profile hearing is scheduled to find out the circumstances under which Comey was sacked and if Trump had interfered with FBI investigations.

Kasowitz, Trump's lawyer, criticized Comey's statement that he had asked a friend to give information about his talks with Trump to a reporter.

In his written statement submitted to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Comey claims that during this private meeting Trump brought up former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was sacked after the White House said he had misrepresented the nature of his contact with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

Trump has remained relatively media shy since the Justice Department tapped former FBI Director Robert Mueller to be the special counsel looking into Russia's meddling into the 2016 election and the Trump campaign's possible ties to it.

Comey painted a devastating picture of an untrustworthy president, who at best unknowingly shred the norms of office by pressing him on the Russian Federation probe, and at worst may have criminally obstructed justice. Trump's Twitter account had been quiet throughout Comey's testimony accusing the administration of spreading "lies".

Comey did not drop the Flynn investigation and was later fired as FBI director by Trump.

By referring to "total and complete vindication", the president was likely thinking of Comey's confirmation Thursday that, as NPR's Jessica Taylor reports, "there was no counterintelligence nor criminal investigation of Trump individually and that the president was not personally under investigation".

Rep. Chris Stewart says former FBI Director James Comey didn't bring any clarity to the controversies swirling around President Donald Trump during his testimony before a Senate panel Thursday. "I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

Comey, who was sacked May 9 amid his investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election, also revealed that he orchestrated a disclosure of details about conversations he had with Trump.

Comey also staunchly defended his reputation and that of the bureau, saying that Trump tried to "defame" him and the FBI when he said it was "poorly led" and that the bureau's agents had lost confidence in him.

After his dismissal, Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee, he told a friend about his memos and asked him to leak the information about them to reporters.

Unsurprisingly, Comey didn't reveal any details about ongoing investigations in a public setting, but he did provide an important clue about the strength of the Trump-Russia allegations.

And part of his decision-making came from a conversation with Obama's acting attorney general, Loretta Lynch.

Comey used the "L word" again while explaining why he made a decision to take notes during his meetings with the president.

President Trump wraps up his speech to a Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

On that, Mr Comey accused the White House of lying.

Comey also said he'd taken careful notes of his meetings because he anxious the president might misrepresent them.

Comey also made clear that political entanglement in law enforcement has cut across party lines.

"That concerned me because that language tracked how the campaign was talking about the FBI's work and that's concerning", he said.

Kasowitz also denied that Trump told Comey, "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty", as Comey claimed.

Comey gave us all a lot to think about, but he also gave senators a lot to investigate. But he has also suggested he doesn't believe it, saying Russian Federation is a "ruse" and calling the investigation into the matter a "witch hunt". "That happened. It's about as unfake as you can possibly get".
