Qatar says Gulf citizens can stay despite crisis

Nationals of countries that cut diplomatic ties with Qatar this week are free to remain in the Gulf state in line with existing regulations, according to a statement carried by Qatar state news agency QNA on Saturday, APA reports quoting Reuters.

Saudi Arabia has closed its land border crossings to Qatar, which imports almost all of its food.

Qatar denies that it supports militants and says it is helping to reduce the threat of terrorism by backing groups that fight poverty and seek political reform.

The trio of Gulf states said earlier on Sunday that they would ease orders expelling Qataris, making some exceptions on humanitarian grounds for those married to citizens of the three countries.

The Ashcroft firm was hired to do a compliance and regulatory view of Qatar's anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing framework, Sullivan said in an email.

"The time had come to call on Qatar to end its funding - they have to end that funding - and its extremist ideology in terms of funding", Mr Trump said.

Qatar's foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, travelled to Moscowon Saturday for talks on the crisis after visiting Germany on Friday. "Process can only work following clear indication that Qatar will stop support & finance of extremism & terrorism".

On Monday, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and the Maldives severed ties with Qatar, accusing it of backing terrorism, and imposed punitive measures.

"Qatar Petroleum, and its subsidiaries, wishes to affirm that it is conducting business as usual throughout all its upstream, midstream and downstream businesses and operations, and in all activities across all of QP's world-class facilities", the statement read.

While Tillerson and others have called for an easing of tensions, Trump on Friday said Qatar had "historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level".

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain welcomed on Saturday Trump's demand for Qatar to stop supporting terrorism, but did not respond to the U.S. department of state call for them to ease pressure on the Gulf state.

Earlier, there were reports of Pakistan sending troops to Qatar after Turkey's chose to deploy troops in Qatar.

Iran, with which Qatar shares a massive offshore gas field, will send its sixth planeload of vegetables to Qatar on Sunday, Iran Air spokesman Shahrokh Noushabadi told The Associated Press.

And Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan - who has pledged food and troops to Qatar in the face of a blockade from its neighbours - hosted Bahrain's foreign minister and urged that the dispute be resolved by the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The African Union chairman, Guinean President Alpha Conde whose country has close ties with Saudi Arabia, has also offered himself as a mediator.
