SC stays Madras HC order over publishing NEET 2017 results

"In a stern tone, the vacation bench of Justice Prafulla C. Pant and Justice Deepak Gupta also barred the high courts in the country from entertaining any petition on NEET, the entrance examination to the country's medical colleges".

The Supreme Court, however, said that declaration of result, subsequent counselling and admission will be subject to its decision on the matter pending before it. On May 24, the Madras HC had stayed the publication of the NEET results as a petitioner filed a plea saying the vernacular question papers for NEET 2017 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses were easier than the papers in English.

"High courts shouldn't have interfered as it affects the schedule of the admission", they said.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered that the results of the 2017 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) be declared by June 26, thereby overruling a stay the Madras high court had issued.

Madras High Court had granted an interim stay on the NEET result publication, on a batch of petitions alleging that a uniform question paper was not given during the examination.

The national exam, which allows students to take admission to medical courses, is now held in 10 languages. For this, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare filed an affidavit at the Madras High Court, urging it to lift the stay.

The Madras High Court questioned the CBSE why the NEET 2017 exam could not be completed immediately after the plus 2 exams. The publication of results are already delayed and it should not be delayed further. The question papers for English and Hindi were the same, but in other languages it was different.

The CBSE can initiate the admission process, the top court said.

NEET 2017 examination took place on May 7 and around 11 lakh candidates entered the examination hall candidates who are eagerly waiting for the results.

It is also being said that students who appeared for NEET exams this year can expect their results after June 13.
