Before Trump became president, Rodman appeared twice on his "Celebrity Apprentice" show and praised the billionaire real estate developer on Twitter during last year's election campaign. "All of you should be proud of yourselves", Rodman says. -North Korean diplomacy, however. As the Washington Post notes, however, Rodman wasn't able to give the gifts to Kim Jong Un in person.

Also presented to Kim were two sets of soaps, two autographed jerseys, a mermaid puzzle and, perhaps most weird, a copy of Where's Waldo: The Totally Essential Travel Collection. "Dennis Rodman had nothing to do with Otto", said Warmbier, referencing the high-profile trip the former National Basketball Association superstar to North Korea took the same day Otto was released.

During the almost 17 months since his arrest, his parents told Fox News' Tucker Carlson that they felt both the Obama and Trump administrations had been unable to reassure them that Warmbier would be released. Behind-the-scenes discussions regarding Warmbier had been underway well before his visit.

Otto Warmbier, 22, returned to OH on Tuesday after being detained and imprisoned for 18 months in North Korea.

Warmbier has been in a coma since March 2016, shortly after he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in North Korea, the family said on Tuesday after he was released.

The 22-year-old student's father, Fred Warmbier, said he does not believe North Korea's explanation that his son's coma resulted from botulism and a sleeping pill.

The report of Warmbier's release on the North's official Korean Central News Agency made no mention of Warmbier's health.

Warmbier's release came after a flurry of secret diplomatic contacts between Washington and Pyongyang, which culminated in Joseph Yun, the State Department's special envoy on North Korea, travelling to Pyongyang to secure Warmbier's release.

Rodman, who landed in Pyongyang Tuesday, was photographed presenting North Korean Sports Minister Kim Il Guk with a copy of Trump's book, "Trump: The Art of the Deal".

The former basketball star has said his visit is not linked to the White House.

He added that he never had a face-to-face meeting with former President Obama. Rodman claims that he is in North Korea "to see some friends and have a good time", but he also told reporters that he is visiting the North "to open a door".
