Cosby accuser shoots hoops amid deliberations

Mr Cosby's did not testify in his trial, meaning jurors must rely on this interview and a 2005 deposition to hear the comedian's versions of events straight from the source.

Bill Cosby is shown during jury deliberations in his trial on sexual assault charges at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., on Tuesday. The Cosby jury got the case on the sixth day of the trial. However, after 30 hours of deliberations, jurors said in a statement to the court that they were unable to agree on a verdict.

The notification of a deadlock came at 11:06 a.m. via a note from the jury foreperson."We can not come to a unanimous consensus on any of the counts", the note read.O'Neill gave the jurors instruction regarding their responsibilities and sent them back to deliberate about 11:30 a.m.Cosby, 79, is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in his Cheltenham home in 2004.

Jurors deliberating the fate of entertainer Bill Cosby told Judge Steven T. O'Neill Thursday morning that they are deadlocked.

If the jury tries again and is still deadlocked, it would be considered a "hung jury" and opens up the possibility that O'Neill will declare a mistrial.

Jurors spent a total of 30 hours considering a verdict. Judge O'Neill told jurors to return to their task for another attempt.

Constand said Cosby drugged and molested her.

More than a dozen excerpts from Cosby's deposition, including the "friends" comment and his acknowledgment that he'd gone "somewhere between permission and rejection" during a previous encounter with Constand.

Cosby's spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, says the impasse shows that jurors are "conflicted about the inconsistencies" in accuser Andrea Constand's account. “And theyre hearing Mr. C.s testimony and hes extremely truthful. "And that's created this doubt".

Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, says only that the jury is "apparently working very hard" to reach agreement on the charges. But the atmosphere remained calm, with accusers and supporters even holding hands at times.

Cosby has been charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault, each of which carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison with no minimum and a $25,000 fine. If they give the district attorney the sense there were several people willing to acquit, that would complicate a decision to retry him, Tully said.

Testimony in the trial began June 5.

"My gut feeling is that they have at least one or two jurors hung", said Cohen, who past year represented former-Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski in a battery case.

“In most criminal cases, anything short of a conviction is a win for the defence, ” said Rudovsky, who isnt involved in the case.

"It doesn't surprise me that this jury is split".

The three charges accuse Cosby of assaulting Andrea Constand without her consent, assaulting her when she was unconscious and assaulting her using drugs to substantially impair her ability to consent.

But when jurors asked to stop for the day Wednesday night, O'Neill was effusive with praise - encouraging their diligence as they weigh charges that could put Cosby in prison for the rest of his life.

“This is an incredible jury that has just acted with incredible dignity and fidelity, ” ONeill said.
