Poll Shows Most Doubt Trump's Respect for Institutions

Poll Shows Most Doubt Trump's Respect for Institutions

Two-thirds of Americans, or 65 percent, think Trump doesn't have much respect for the country's democratic institutions and traditions or has none at all. Clinton won the popular vote by 1 percentage point, even though Trump beat her on electoral votes.

Almost as many Americans, 64 percent, disapprove of Trump's climate change policies. Rasmussen's findings vary drastically from what Gallup has been showing.

Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge posted a rare tweet on Friday touting President Trump hitting 50 percent in a daily tracking poll by Rasmussen Reports.

President Trump, officially under investigation for possible obstruction of justice, is back with self-pitying tweets. The public at large thinks Trump's conduct has been improper, and Americans are not so entranced with Trump's agenda that they feel desperate to preserve his presidency.

The president tweeted a celebratory photo shortly after the poll was released.

"Republicans like Cruz more than we like dads on Father's Day", said Daron Shaw, co-director of the poll and a government professor at UT-Austin.

While that sentiment appeared most common among Democrats and independents - 9 in 10 and 6 in 10, respectively - a third of Republican voters said Trump had little or no respect for democratic institutions in America. Democrats were more likely than Republicans to express favorable views of the federal law enforcement agency: 51 percent have favorable opinions and 15 percent had unfavorable views; among Republicans, 43 percent were positive and 35 percent were negative. For example, as long as Trump maintains 80 percent job approval among Texas Republicans, it is inconceivable that Republicans in the Texas congressional delegation will entertain any idea of impeachment proceedings. Overall, 11 percent of Texans have favorable views of that country and 56 percent have unfavorable views. Patrick got good reviews from 34 percent of voters and bad ones from 36 percent; Straus had 25 percent good reviews and 29 percent negative ones. Only 5 percent of Democrats hold a positive view of Russian Federation, 71 percent hold a negative view, and 24 percent are neutral. Nearly half of Texas voters - 49 percent - have "somewhat" or "very" unfavorable views of the ACA, while 51 percent put the House plan in that same category.
