After US shoots down Syrian jet, Russian Federation threatens unsafe escalation

The Syrian jet was shot down on Sunday evening after regime forces engaged fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Earlier, Syrian forces attacked coalition fighters in Ja'Din, wounding a number of fighters and driving them from the town.

On June 18, American armed forces shot down a Syrian warplane after reportedly seeing the jet drop bombs near a USA -backed coalition group that had been fighting an ISIS unit.

The US-led coalition has been fighting against Daesh in Syria without permission by Damascus.

They are moving increasingly east, we have already seen a couple of skirmishes between USA forces and Shi'a militias backed by Iran south of here.

"Any aircraft, including planes and drones of the worldwide coalition, detected in the operation areas west of the Euphrates River by the Russian air forces will be followed by Russian ground-based air defense and air defense aircraft as air targets", Russia's Defense Ministry said in the statement.

Using the "deconfliction line", the U.S. asked Russian Federation to "de-escalate the situation and stop the firing".

The Russian Defense Ministry called the attack an act of "military aggression" and pledged to halt cooperation with USA forces in response.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov branded the attack on the Syrian jet as an act of aggression which in fact helped the terrorists the United States says its trying to destroy.

Tensions escalated on Sunday as the USA military brought down a Syrian military jet near Raqqa for bombing near us -allied forces on the ground, the first time Washington had carried out such an action in the multi-pronged civil war.

"What is this, if not an act of aggression", he asked.

The US military has said it was repositioning its aircraft over Syria to ensure the safety of American air crews targeting the self-proclaimed Islamic State group.

But while Moscow is a longstanding ally of President Bashar al Assad, US forces have been supporting groups including the Syrian Democratic Front, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab groups fighting against IS.

The two countries support opposing sides in Syria's civil war.

The U.S. Navy says one of them was attacked by that Syrian aircraft it shot down. The spokesman made clear, however, that the United States would continue to "work with partners" to counter the threat of the Islamic State in Syria. In November, the SDF began its military offensive, closing in on Raqqa in areas north and east of the Euphrates River.
