Dems say they'll slow Senate work over secretive care bill

With that kind of representation you would think that we here in Wyoming might have the inside scoop on what the Senate is considering as far as a healthcare plan to replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Many Republican senators have pushed for a more gradual phaseout in their bill, as well as preserving certain protections for preexisting conditions under the ACA not maintained in the House bill.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said President Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers seeking re-election next year "will reap the whirlwind" once voters learn about the legislation. "These are merely the first steps we're prepared to take in order to shine a light on this shameful Trumpcare bill and reveal to the public the GOP's true intentions: to give the uber-wealthy a tax break while making middle class Americans pay more for less health care coverage".

CNN reporter MJ Lee just exposed the sham that is the Senate Republican health care bill.

Senate Democrats, in taking action Monday, are inserting themselves into a process that has excluded them by design.

The question that arises, though, is what Democrats could actually do about it. Binder told me that the answer was probably a simple one. But it's not uncommon for either party to draft bills or resolve stubborn final hurdles behind closed doors, foregoing the step-by-step, civics-book version of how Congress works.

"It's not unusual, especially for a big bill like this".

GREENE: Tommy Binion is a congressional liaison with the conservative Heritage Foundation. But it will force Republicans to answer for what Democrats say is a rushed process and bad policy.

Unfortunately the debate over the "repeal and replacement" of Obamacare is being confused with a debate over health care.

BENNETT:.That the rules that outline the budget process which Republicans are using to pass this health care legislation so that they can do it without Democratic votes - those rules say that lawmakers can only move one such bill at a time.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said that he's complained to leadership about the lack of transparency.

MCEVERS: Very quickly, how likely is it Republicans could come up with something that will pass? "Since last week, I have gotten more than 1,000 phone calls from people who are pleading with me to do whatever I can to stop Republicans", Warren said from the Senate floor, according to the Hill.

McConnell, R-Ky., is using closed-door meetings among Republicans to write a bill. This could slow Senate operations by forcing the Republican majority to hold additional procedural votes in order to move ahead.

The AHCA also would allow states under certain circumstances to apply for waivers that exempt insurance companies from having to cover numerous essential health benefits that are guaranteed under the Affordable Care Act.

Still, Senate Republicans badly want to take up other priorities such as overhauling the country's tax code.

"Will it be more than 10 hours?"

"At the end of the process, Congress will have a chance to turn the page on this failed law", he said.

During a White House meeting this week, Trump privately told Senate Republicans that the House bill was "mean".
