Despite tweet, lawyer says Trump not being probed

Asked about the possibility that an investigation has developed and the president just doesn't know, Sekulow says, "I can't read people's minds".

If the Post story turns out to be real news, what we will have is an investigation of an impossible crime being conducted by a special counsel who is burdened by severe conflicts and supervised by another conflicted official.

Is the president being investigated? In fact, to the contrary.

Also appearing on CNN's State of the Union, Sekulow said Trump's message on Twitter was an abbreviated response to the report, but added that Trump is "very effective" with his use of social media.

So was host Chris Wallace, whose refusal to let the attorney, Jay Sekulow, get away with contradictory statements about the investigation led to a tense back-and-forth. "No, he's not being investigated!"

Were Trump's apparent confessions that he fired Comey to relieve the pressure he felt from the Russian Federation investigation enough to warrant a new investigation of Trump for obstruction of justice? The suggestion that Mueller is expanding his probe of Russian interference in the 2016 elections and the Trump team's actions into a possible obstruction case has emerged since Comey spoke to the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8.

"There may be a technicality as to who reports to whom. but ultimately everyone who is a political appointee reports to the president", Spicer said.

Trump's legal team says the tweet was simply about a report that the president was under investigation for obstruction of justice - not a confirmation.

We know that Comey's decision to leak his memos to a friend, who subsequently leaked the documents to friendly press, was likely inappropriate.

Meanwhile, other sources have said that the President is indeed under investigation for the highly unconventional firing of the FBI Chief.

Asked on NBC whether Trump's social-media commentary may be created to intimidate Rosenstein or Mueller, Sen.

The Justice Department has said Muller's work at the firm does not disqualify him from leading the investigation.

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida has defended the president's vocal denouncement of the proceedings. "The FBI's going to do their job".

And the principle reason is, Martha, that if a foreign government - in this case Russian Federation - has something that they can hang over the head of our president or our administration that can influence USA policy, it is very much in our national security interest to know it.

"Trump has a compulsion to counter-attack and is very pugnacious".

Except ... Trump has now deleted that tweet.

He said, however, that Sekulow's comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller's team officially confirms it, disregarding media reports based on anonymous sourcing.

Former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich said, "I don't think that tweet served him".

Rep. Adam Schiff says he wants the White House to acknowledge the tapes or make clear there are no tapes and "it was an idle threat". "They're essentially engaging in a scorched-earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor".

America is edging ever closer to a new long, national nightmare, given President Donald Trump's explosive response to signs that special counsel Robert Mueller is approaching the epicenter of White House power. I don't think that tweet helped him, but it's who he's been his whole life. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has said there is no evidence of collusion.
