In Georgia, a cacophony of arguments could tilt House race

In Georgia, a cacophony of arguments could tilt House race

"It's a neck and neck race, and it's all about turnout now", Ossoff told WSB television yesterday. Would they vote for Ossoff?

But the national attention - and all the money - tells another story.

Ossoff is seeking support from moderate voters with ads focused on the economy and national spending, while Handel is focusing on her experience as Georgia secretary of state. And the attention is all the more intense given Republicans held on to House seats in Montana and Kansas earlier this spring and are expected to hold a SC seat on Tuesday.

Ossoff "wants to raise taxes and kill healthcare", Trump added.

Handel is facing Democrat Jon Ossoff, who has come under for living just outside the district.

Ossoff fell just short of winning the seat outright in April's jungle primary, when he netted 48 percent of the vote.

The race has now become the most expensive in Congressional history, with Ossoff raising more than $23 million as of May 31, according to Federal Election Commission records.

For Handel, Ossoff's "values are 3,000 miles away in San Francisco", the hometown of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.

The two campaigns and political groups have bombarded Atlanta airwaves with election advertising.

The former Georgia secretary of state is thanking a festive crowd at a restaurant in her hometown of Roswell, Georgia, where she reminds her supporters that Ossoff doesn't actually live in the district.

The race is being viewed nationally as a gauge of whether President Donald Trump's sagging approval ratings are a drag on Republicans that could threaten the party's control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections.

The response from Obama's spokesman comes a day after it was reported that the former president's voice was being used out of context to keep Democrats from voting.

Some observers were also eying the race for clues into how voters perceive the Republican health care bill now making its way through Congress.

It's the best shot the party has of the four House special elections this spring to win a seat that now belongs to Republicans.

Polls open today from 7am to 7pm.

Q: Can one election really say anything about what will happen in 435 House elections 18 months from now?

I was asked about the Congressional baseball game shooting and its effect on the Congressional Race in the 6th District.

That attack has ratcheted up tensions in the Georgia race.

Trump initially got involved in the special election by recording a robocall that went out to voters in that district.

The Georgia 6th is an affluent and well-educated district that has elected Newt Gingrich, the former speaker; Johnny Isakson, now Georgia's senior USA senator; and most recently Tom Price, who resigned in February to join the administration. Consider, for example, this Washington Post piece on some in the party seeing an electoral benefit from last week's D.C. -area shooting, which left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) clinging to life.
