Leaving climate accord puts United States behind -- Ned Grossnickle

Leaving climate accord puts United States behind -- Ned Grossnickle

"We understand that some officials inside your Administration want to remain in the Paris Agreement to keep a seat at the table so that the USA continues to have a voice in future discussions".

President Donald Trump announced the United States withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord against the will of most Americans.

The renewable energy industry grew 14 percent. "This decision will hurt the USA and the planet".

What is generally absent from these discussions, as we reported in Pressenza repeatedly, is the effect of burning fossil fuels on health, whether they change the climate more or less catastrophically, right now or a little later.

We strongly encourage the President to reconsider this decision, and to restore the U.S.'s full participation in this essential worldwide agreement. From criticism of President Obama's golf outings - which he's already outpaced - to climate change, an issue he once tweeted was "Created by and for the Chinese in order to make USA manufacturing non-competitive".

The Paris agreement on climate change has set out a global action plan to combat the risky effects of climate change. 'Resistance will be maintained because the United States is much more than just the White House and Trump'.

At a time when there is a "Spectacular" drop in renewable energy costs... So, it's been clear for some time that the US federal government is not going to act on climate change in the foreseeable future.

A number of US mayors have vowed to do the same, proving that local leadership can have an impact even in the face of federal opposition. As part of the Paris Agreement, the US took on a leadership role in driving clean energy innovation, as well as monitoring other countries' progress and ensuring transparency.

Former President Barack Obama, who has remained mostly quiet through the Trump administrations, called the move an "absence of American leadership".

We're glad to see our governor, Andrew Cuomo, lead NY to join with California and Washington in starting a coalition of states committed to upholding their part of the Paris pact. "We see the impacts of our actions very close to home".

Speeding up the transition to renewable energy is good for our health, jobs, worldwide diplomacy and USA security.

States can do a great deal to mitigate climate change and pollution, as shown by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative over the last decade-plus.
