Nation rages as Pak defeats arch-rival India in Champions Trophy

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has been rewarded for leading his side to the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 triumph on Sunday, after being named to lead the Team of the tournament announced by the world body.

Sarfraz will pleased with the performances of the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Hasan Ali, who despite lack of experience delivered on the big stage.

"I would rate his performance as arguably the greatest by a Pakistani in a world event final considering that this was only his fourth ODI and first ever against India", he said.

After leaving India reeling on six for two following the dismissals of Sharma and Kohli, Amir's figures read 1.4 overs, four runs, two wickets.

"Victory in the final has its own significance, it has added to the confidence of the little-known players who performed superbly and has given a new identity to the team after losing to India", they said.

Pakistan thrashed India by 180 runs in a thrilling competition at London's Oval ground on June 18 to steal the Champions Trophy from the title holders.

Fakhar Zaman's maiden one-day global hundred laid the foundations for Pakistan's formidable total of 338-4.

"Entire Indian team can never get out under 100 runs (Excluding 76 of Pandya) if match is not fixed".

"I thought Pakistan were the better team in the first quarter and they created more opportunities but after we scored the first goal we started to play according to our plan", said India coach Roelant Oltmans.

Mohammad Hafeez dedicated a stunning ICC Champions Trophy success to the public of Pakistan after thrashing India at The Oval. Amir's arrangement means he will play County Championship fixtures for the current Division One leaders, as well as NatWest T20 Blast matches.

Although it was a chastening defeat for Kohli, it was something to savour for his Pakistan counterpart Sarfraz.

"I want to congratulate the Pakistan team and their fans, I think they really had an incredible tournament", Kohli said on Sky Sports. But when he was striking it well, I think he felt and everyone in the changing room also felt that if he can go on for a bit more, then things could become interesting. The Green Shirts had entered as the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, with nobody predicting they would go on to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, reflecting on India's tournament as a whole, Kohli insisted: "We can (still) be very proud. and we leave here with our heads held high. They outplayed us. They were more intense and passionate on the day".
