Trump calls investigation 'greatest witch hunt'

As Jonah Seiger points out, it's hard to interpret this in any other way than Trump admitting he's under investigation. The Post report did not name the Federal Bureau of Investigation as its source. And I continue to believe that it revolves around trying to end, or at least weaken, the financial sanctions put on Russian Federation by former President Obama.

Still, none of that means, of course, that he has become a sitting duck.

Comey prepared multiple contemporaneous memos documenting conversations with Trump that made him uneasy in the weeks before his May 9 firing. And yes, this tweet makes clear that this is exactly what he plans to do: fight back whenever and wherever he can.

Dan Coats, the Director of National Intelligence, Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, and Richard Ledgett, the former deputy director at the NSA, had agreed to be interviewed by Mr. Mueller's investigators as early as this week, the Post said.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Comey had presented no evidence to prove that Moscow meddled in the U.S. election, adding that Washington had tried to influence Russian elections "year after year", he said.

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" he said in an early morning tweet.

A majority of Americans believe US President Donald Trump has tried to interfere in the FBI's investigation into e Russian meddling in last year's US presidential election, according to a new poll.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein warned against trusting anonymous sources late Thursday night, shortly before The Washington Post published a damaging story about White House adviser Jared Kushner that relied on unnamed US officials as sources.

Speaking to reporters during an off-camera, unrecorded briefing, Sanders said Trump "has the right to" fire Mueller as special counsel but "has no intention to do so".

Friday's tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the president after a report by The Washington Post, NBC News and others that Mueller was looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's legal team, also denounced the report, saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

Later in the day, he tweeted: "Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?" He was shot by Capitol police and later died of his injuries, President Trump told the nation from the White House.

The special counsel is following two major lines of investigation, said one source.

The US president has denied trying to influence the investigation, but has acknowledged in an interview that Russian Federation was on his mind when he dismissed Comey.

Feinstein has said the Judiciary Committee should investigate, but had asked Grassley to keep the investigations separate.
